Metallica (in English: Metallica) is an American heavy metal and thrash metal band, founded in Los Angeles, California in 1981. The current members of the band are vocalist and guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, who also founded the band, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo Former band members include lead guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassists Ron McGobney, Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted. Over the years, Metallica collaborated for a long time with Bob Rock, who produced the band's albums between 1990-2003, and even served as temporary bassist in the period between Newstead's departure and Trujillo's joining.
