R.I.A.M. (.REM) was a rock band founded in the city of Athens in the state of Georgia in the United States in 1980 by Michael Stipe (vocalist), Bill Berry (drums), Peter Buck (guitar), and Mike Mills (bass guitar and background vocals ). During the eighties, being signed to the independent label IRS, they achieved a special status in American music, and were adopted by music stations that appealed to an audience of college students, becoming one of the prominent bands in the alternative rock of the time. In the early nineties, they released two albums that were defined as musical masterpieces, and became one of the most popular, appreciated and musically influential bands in the world.
